His Works are Perfect

Three years ago, I stood in the very wilderness where Moses and the Israelites wandered for forty years.

Forty years is a long road trip.

No air conditioning.
No convenience stores.
No GPS announcing, “In 500 feet, turn left.”
No weather app.

Just Moses, a million-plus people, and God.

Imagine leaving the only home you had ever known and stepping into a wilderness with no idea what tomorrow would bring.

Every day required faith.

Yet what strikes me most about their story is not Israel’s failure, but God’s faithfulness.

When they were hungry, He fed them.
When they were thirsty, He gave them water.
When they were lost, He guided them.

The people complained. God remained faithful.
The people doubted. God remained faithful.
The people rebelled. God remained faithful.

Later, I stood on Mount Nebo in Jordan, where Moses spent his final days. After forty years of leading Israel through the wilderness, he looked across the Jordan River at the Promised Land he would never enter.

If anyone had a reason to be disappointed, it was Moses.

Yet listen to his words:

“He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.” (Deuteronomy 32:4)

Notice Moses calls God the Rock.

This is the first time in Scripture that God is given this title, and it is directly connected to His faithfulness.

Israel had often been unfaithful, but God never was.

Through every complaint, every act of rebellion, and every wilderness detour, God remained faithful. His promises never failed because His character never changes.

Moses understood something every believer must eventually learn:

Circumstances change.
People fail.
Plans unravel.
Dreams sometimes go unfulfilled.

But God remains faithful.

I learned that truth in a way I never expected.

When my daughter Joy unexpectedly died, my world was shaken in ways I never thought possible. The grief was overwhelming. Questions filled my mind, and the pain seemed more than I could bear. Everything I thought was secure suddenly felt uncertain.

Yet in the darkest season of my life, I discovered that when every earthly foundation gives way, God remains the Rock.

The God who was faithful to Moses was faithful to me.

He did not remove my sorrow, but He carried me through it.

One day at a time, He sustained me.

The God who was Moses’ Rock became my Rock after the loss of Joy.

And He will be your Rock as well.

If your world has been shaken, remember this:

God’s faithfulness does not depend on your circumstances.

It rests in His unchanging character.

He is the Rock.

And He is faithful.
