Unconditional Love

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8

So much of the love in this world feels conditional. People love us when we succeed, when we behave a certain way, or when we meet expectations. But God’s love is completely different. His love is not based on our performance, our accomplishments, or our ability to “have it all together.” He loves us simply because we are His.

In many ways, we are all like helpless children before God — weak, needy, and dependent on His grace every single day. A parent of a special needs child does not stop loving that child because of struggles, weaknesses, or limitations. If anything, that child is often loved with even greater tenderness, patience, and compassion. That is a beautiful picture of the heart of God toward us.

We all make mistakes. We all sin. We all fail Him more times than we can count. Yet God does not pull away from us. He draws near. His grace covers our failures, and His mercy meets us in our weakness. What a comfort to know that we never have to earn His love. It is constant, faithful, and unconditional.
