WHEN THE DOCTOR BRINGS BAD NEWS

Have you ever walked into a doctor’s office expecting to hear, “Everything looks good,” only to hear…

“Your blood work showed a few things we want to check out.”

Or maybe an ultrasound, X-ray, or scan shows an abnormality.

And just like that, your mind starts racing.

What does this mean? How serious is it? What happens next?

Maybe you’ve been there.

Maybe you’re there right now.

And this is where God’s grace and mercy become more than words we read in the Bible.

They become exactly what we need.

HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT

Paul pleaded with God to remove his suffering.

God’s answer?

“My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

Sometimes God heals.

Sometimes He works through doctors, medicine, and treatment.

And sometimes the answer is “not now.”

But when the answer isn’t what we hoped for, God doesn’t leave us empty-handed.

He gives us grace to endure, strength to trust, and power to keep walking.

Hebrews 4:16 tells us: “Let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

When the news is frightening, don’t run from God. Run toward Him.

Pray for God’s will to be done.

Seek good medical care.

Ask God for wisdom.

And trust Him with the outcome.

We may never know exactly why God allowed a particular trial.

But we can trust the Who even when we don’t understand the why.

I’m sharing a song that is VERY personal to me.

I recently walked through the kind of unexpected medical news I’m talking about in this devotional. The words of “EVEN IF” by MercyMe have meant more to me than I could ever put into words.

This song says so beautifully what we’re trying to understand:

God is able.

God can heal.

God can change the situation.

But what happens when He doesn’t?

“Even if” He doesn’t, our hope is still Him.

That is such an important truth when we’re sitting in a doctor’s office waiting for answers.

We can say:

“Lord, I know You are able.

I know You can.

I’m asking You to heal me.

But even if You don’t, my hope is You alone.”

That is faith.

Not faith that everything will turn out the way we want…

But faith that God will still be God, and He will still be with us, no matter what the answer is.

God can use a trial to deepen our dependence on Him, change our priorities, and make us more compassionate toward others who are hurting.

So if you’re sitting in a doctor’s office today…

If you’re waiting for test results…

If you’ve just received news that has shaken you…

Take the next step.

You don’t have to know what tomorrow holds.

You just need to remember:

His mercy will meet you there.

His grace will be sufficient.

And you will never walk through the valley alone.

Today’s grace is enough for today.
