His Faithfulness is Eternal
If you were to list every promise God has broken to you your page would remain blank.
That simple truth is at the heart of Psalm 33. We have every reason to praise God—not because life is always easy, but because God is always faithful.
As we look back over our lives, we can often see His faithfulness more clearly than we could in the moment. There were seasons of uncertainty, disappointment, and waiting. Yet through it all, God remained true to His Word and faithful to His promises.
The psalm points us to two unchanging truths: God’s Word can be trusted, and His ways are always right. What He says, He does. What He promises, He keeps.
People may fail us. Circumstances may change. Even our own faith can sometimes feel weak. But God’s faithfulness never wavers. He remains steadfast, dependable, and true.
That is why the psalmist calls us to trust and rejoice in the Lord. Our confidence is not rooted in our circumstances but in the faithful God who lovingly watches over His people.
Psalm 33 is an anchor for the soul. When life feels uncertain, it reminds us of this simple but powerful truth: God was faithful yesterday, He is faithful today, and He will be faithful tomorrow.
“For the word of the LORD is right and true; He is faithful in all He does.” — Psalm 33:4
Many Bible commentators believe David wrote Psalm 57 at En Gedi. Don and I had the privilege of visiting that location on February 9, 2023.
In 1 Samuel 24, Saul entered the very cave where David and his men were hiding in the wilderness of En Gedi. David had the opportunity to take Saul’s life and end his troubles once and for all. Instead, he chose to trust God to vindicate him in His own time and in His own way.
If Psalm 57 was indeed written at En Gedi, verse 10 becomes even more powerful:
“For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.” (Psalm 57:10)
Imagine David sitting in a dark cave with danger only steps away. Saul was searching for him, his future was uncertain, and his circumstances seemed overwhelming. Yet David’s focus was not on Saul. His focus was on God.
Rather than dwelling on what he could see, David fixed his eyes on the character of the Lord. He chose to trust in God’s steadfast love and unwavering faithfulness.
The cave was temporary.
God’s faithfulness was eternal.
The same is true for us today. Whatever cave you may find yourself in—a season of waiting, uncertainty, disappointment, or difficulty—remember that your circumstances are temporary, but God’s faithfulness never changes. Lift your eyes above the problem and focus on the One whose love reaches to the heavens and whose faithfulness reaches to the skies.
